Kettner’s reopens as a boutique hotel in Soho

Jacobean Suite / Kettner's Townhouse

Kettner’s Townhouse Hotel and Restaurant has reopened as a 30-room boutique hotel and restaurant, after a year of refurbishment.

Kettner’s, which was opened in 1867 by Napoleon III’s chef, Auguste Kettner, has reopened following a year of refurbishment. It closed in 2016 after it was bought by Soho House, a group that runs restaurants (including Dean Street Townhouse and Pizza East) as well as private members’ clubs.

Kettner’s now reopens as a 33-room boutique hotel with a restaurant, cocktail bar, champagne bar and lounge.

Kettner’s Townhouse accommodation

Kettner’s offers 33 bedrooms, each with its own 1920s inspired design, in the heart of Soho. The bedroom walls are decorated with hand-painted wallpaper and William Morris prints, and the ceilings and floors have been respectfully restored to reflect their origins.

The height of the accommodation is the 80m2 Jacobean Suite which features a super-king size bed, freestanding copper bath and 8-seater dining table.

Accommodation starts at £255 per night.

Kettner’s Townhouse food and drink

Not straying too far from its past, Kettner’s Townhouse offers all-day French fare. All the classics you would expect are present, such as Eggs Benedict for breakfast and Côte du Boeuf at dinner. But there are some nice twists too, like the decadent Vol-au-Vent Scrambled Eggs with Black Truffle.

A three course dinner for two (with a bottle of wine) is around £80 but there is also a two/three course fixed price “theatre menu” at £19/£22pp but do check timing restrictions first.

And if you want something more decadent, the Champagne Bar has its own menu. There is a Champagne Breakfast (£25pp) or Champagne Afternoon Tea (£35pp).

Kettner’s Townhouse reviews

Kettner’s reopening has been hotly awaited. The Telegraph listed it as one of its “16 hotel openings in the UK for 2018″ and commented on its new rooms that “have been sympathetically renovated to restore and enhance many listed features”.

We wait to see what critics make of the food since its restoration.
