Royal Lancaster London relaunches by Hyde Park

Well appointed room with a panoramic views over Hyde Park / Royal Lancaster Hotel

Royal Lancaster London, the iconic 1960s hotel with panoramic views over Hyde Park, has reopened after an £80 million refurbishment.

The independent hotel currently has a 4-star rating but this expensive and classy redesign shows it has ambitions to increase on that very quickly.

Royal Lancaster London accommodation

The hotel, an architectural icon, originally opened in 1967, when it was one of London’s coolest spots, famously hosting The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine film premiere after-party.

The 18-storey hotel, which has 411 rooms, has undergone a significant revamp. The interiors are plush, clean and draw on pastel, softer colours, such as sage green and light sea blues. The redesign also saw the hotel change its name from the Lancaster London Hotel to the Royal Lancaster London.

The hotel hosts a spread of rooms and suites, which are all finished with sumptious fabrics and marble. But the standout selling point of the rooms is surely the expansive verdant views over Hyde Park, giving occupants an immersive panoramic views from Wembley to The Shard.

The hotel also has bright beautifully finished public spaces, and more than 16 meeting and conference rooms that can cater for every type and size of gathering from 2 to 1,000 guests. The hotel also has a well appointed gym and offers in-room spa treatments.

The smallest rooms start at around £250, while the largest suite will set you back around £1,000.

Royal Lancaster London food and drink

The hotel has three restaurants and two bars. The all-day Isalnd Grill provides a relaxed setting to enjoy modern European dishes. The Park Restaurant provides guests with fine dining with gorgeous views over the park.

Then there is the world-renowned and award-winning Nipa Thai restaurant, which serves delicious authentic and traditional cuisine headed up by Sanguan Parr. Although a high-end Thai restaurant might sound like a strange choice for the London hotel, the hotel is actually owned by a Thai hotelier family, so you should only expect the best. There are a range of tasting menus, serving up Thai classics Kaeng Kiew Warn Phak Tao Hoo and Tim Kati ice cream.

If you’re looking for a relaxing cocktail or glass of wine, again with views over Hyde Park, you can take a break in the Lounge Bar or Hyde Lobby Bar. Finally, the hotel also serves up Afternoon Teas with treats and sweets designed by acclaimed Executive Chef Ben Purton.

Royal Lancaster London reviews

The redesign and relaunch has been very well received. The Telegraph says that the “Royal Lancaster London has transformed itself from a frowsy four-star infamous for its frightful carpets to the most Instagrammable hotel in West London”. While The Mail highlights the views, saying that “while you are perched in a room in the heart of London, you get the feeling that you might be in the countryside.”
